MORE ABOUT JULIE WOODS
“Why not?” - two small words that took Julie from the couch as a newly blind mother to living life as a daring adventurer can be applied to any setting; life, work or business with amazing results!
Julie Woods a.k.a. that blind woman has never let the loss of her sight hold her back. After going blind in 1997 at the age of 31, she learned to say why not to opportunities that came her way. “Do you want to learn braille?” “Do you want to walk a half marathon?” and yes, even “Do you want to referee a game of nude touch rugby?”
ONE MILLION NAMES IN BRAILLE
Find out how saying “why not” led Julie Woods to Paris in 2009 and what a young Indian porter said to her that inspired her to set a goal of writing 1 million names in Braille.
Julie will be asking attendees to write down your first names to add to her 1 million names in Braille total. Shawn Wallace from The Chase very kindly wore the 10,000 sash on a visit to Dunedin as he was Julie's 10,000th name in Braille.

JULIE'S BOOK 'WHY NOT'
Julie will be bringing along copies of her book WHY NOT – what a blind woman said to “Do you want to referee a game of nude touch rugby?” and more which she published in lock-down 2020, with her husband Ron Esplin having illustrated the book.
These will be available for sale at the event for $20.00.
RAISING MONEY FOR BLIND LOW VISION NZ
We will be raising money for Julie's chosen charity, Blind Low Vision NZ. Donations can be made at the event.
